Oak Park residents who think they got the shaft on their most recent tax assessments still have time to appeal the county assessment – but the clock is ticking to file the paperwork.

Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar said in a press release that it is the second and final opportunity for taxpayers to appeal the 2017 assessed values to the Cook County Board of Review.

“The Cook County Board of Review has the authority to review and change the decisions of the Cook County Assessor,” ElSaffar said in the press release. “But those seeking to appeal with the board of review can do so only if they file an appeal by Aug. 30. Those who miss the filing deadline will lose their rights to appeal their 2017 assessed valuations.”

Those who successfully appeal will not see the change until the summer of calendar year 2018, ElSaffar noted.

The Oak Park Township Assessor Office’s is open to the public for help with preparing appeals, but it is the busy season right now, so setting an appointment can help taxpayers avoid long waits.

The township office is at 105 S. Oak Park Ave. The phone number is 708-383-8005.
