I claim sanctuary from parking ordinance fines or prosecution. For 50 years, the teachers at Lincoln School have denied me my constitutionally-guaranteed right to be able to park in front of my house.

With Oak Park’s “Sanctuary City” proclamation, I wish to claim my fair share and declare my sanctuary from prosecution for overnight parking violations. If our village can choose which laws to honor, why can’t I?

Silly? You bet! We try very hard to educate our children to honor and respect the law. How do you make that point if their own community has decided to disregard laws they disagree with?

If a village employee decides to get a bad dude out of our town by informing ICE, can he or she lose their employment? I would prefer they get a medal!
