Police blocked off Roosevelt Road at Austin Boulevard for roughly six and a half hours Oct. 1, while responding to a person in an apartment in the 6000 block of Roosevelt Road who threatened to harm himself, according to village spokesman David Powers. Police cordoned off the surrounding area around 1 p.m.

A special unit from the Cook County Sheriff’s department was called in to help facilitate negotiations with the man threatening self harm. No one sustained any injuries during the incident, but the blocked road resulted in significant traffic delays until around 7:30 p.m., when it was reopened.
