Police are investigating a robbery and subsequent attack that took place on the CTA Blue Line at the Oak Park Avenue stop at 1 a.m. on Feb. 19.
The victim, a Chicago man, fell asleep on the eastbound train when several teenagers took his backpack, which contained $700, medication, clothing and an LG cellphone.
The victim struggled to retrieve his backpack, when one of the teenagers approached from behind and punched him in the head several times.
The offenders fled the train toward the East Avenue exit. The estimated loss is $1,550.
Theft
- A Bridgeview resident’s black 2016 Hyundai Tucson that was reported stolen out of Oak Park on Feb. 12 was recovered in the 700 block of Gunderson Avenue at 10:05 a.m. on Feb. 20.
- Someone stole all four wheels from a victim’s black 2011 Buick LaCrosse in the 500 block of South Maple, sometime between 6:55 a.m. and 4:50 p.m. on Feb. 22. The estimated loss is $240.
- Someone stole a woman’s black leather wallet in the 400 block of North Harlem Avenue at 4:45 p.m. on Feb. 23. The wallet contained a Michigan driver’s license, debit and credit cards, an insurance card, and other miscellaneous cards. The estimated loss is $20.
- Someone stole several items from a business in the 400 block of Madison Street at 7:33 p.m. on Feb. 17. Three offenders concealed several items in tote bags and left the business without paying. They entered a black newer model Nissan that headed westbound on Madison. The estimated loss is $121.91.
- A brown 2013 Hyundai that was stolen out of Oak Park on Feb. 14 was recovered in the 3700 block of West Iowa, Chicago, at 4:39 a.m. on Feb. 18. The Chicago Police Department took one person into custody.
- An unlocked white 2000 Toyota was stolen from the 300 block of Linden Avenue, sometime between 8 p.m. on Feb. 17 and 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 18. The offender used keys inside the vehicle to remove the vehicle, according to police. The estimated loss is $5,000.
Robbery
Lashane Grayer, 23, of the 1200 block of South California, Chicago, was arrested in the 6000 block of North Avenue at 1:16 p.m. on Feb. 22 and charged with robbery. The victim was identified as a Forest Park resident. No additional information was given.
Warrant arrest
Larry Daniels, 30, of the 4400 block of West End, Chicago, was arrested at 10:50 p.m. by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office on an active Oak Park warrant for criminal damage to property. He was also charged with a warrant for burglary in River Forest.
Burglary
- Someone broke a padlock to gain entry to a victim’s storage locker in the 400 block of South Maple at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 15. The offender then stole four white single-room air-conditioners worth $400.
- A residence was burglarized in the 500 block of North East Avenue at 1:04 a.m. on Feb. 17. The offender took two Apple laptops. The estimated loss is $6,000.
- A residence was burglarized in the 1100 block of South Cuyler Avenue, sometime between 9:15 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. on Feb. 17. The offender pried open a locked front window to gain access to the residence and then ransacked the interior and took a set of pearl earrings and a set of diamond stud earrings. The estimated loss is $600.
- Judson Baptist Church, 1252 N. Austin Blvd., was burglarized sometime between 12:04 p.m. on Feb. 17 and 11:38 a.m. on Feb. 18. The offender broke a window to the vestibule to gain entry and then opened a box that was in the vestibule and fled southbound on Austin Boulevard. No loss was reported.
The offender was described as a black man, approximately 30 years old, medium build, 6-foot, and wearing a green coat with fur on the hood, light khaki pants and tan Timberland brand boots and carrying a satchel.
- A residence was burglarized in the 1100 block of South Kenilworth Avenue at 1:41 p.m. on Feb. 18. The offender used a pry tool to force open the rear door. The offender then stole two jars with coins, $200, a handgun with ammunition, a gray pouch containing men’s miscellaneous jewelry, a wooden jewelry box containing jewelry. The estimated loss is $8,300.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports, Feb. 17-25, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
