On June 6, Alcuin Montessori School, 324 N. Oak Park Ave., honored two longtime teachers who are leaving the school — Margaret Combs and Jamie Sloan — during an end of year picnic held on the school’s grounds.

According to school officials, Combs has worked at Alcuin for 14 years and “is considered an institution in the school, impacting the lives of hundreds of students and their families.”

While teaching at Alcuin, Combs also worked as a teacher trainer and consultant at the Montessori Teacher training center in Evanston, and an instructional guide and consultant at the Center for Guide Montessori Studies.

Sloan had worked at Alcuin since 2010 and had led its parent/infant program for the last three years. She recently accepted a position as a Montessori elementary coordinator at the Qingdao Amerasia International School (QAIS) in Qingdao, China.

“Whether you are a friend of Jamie’s, co-worker, parent or simply a passer-by, you can’t help but love this woman and take her words to hear,” school officials said.
