The Oak Park Police Department has promoted four officers within the department, naming a new deputy chief and three new commanders, according to a press release.

Joseph Moran, a veteran of the force with more than 25 years’ experience, was promoted from detective commander to deputy chief, and three sergeants – Donica Silva, Dave Jacobson and Shatonya Johnson – were promoted to commander.

Moran, who had served as detective commander, will oversee the patrol division, which includes all officers who police the community.

Silva, who was named operations commander, has served on the force since 1994, while Jacobson, who was named patrol commander, joined in 1995. Johnson, who will replace Moran as detective commander, joined in 2000.

“Having the ability to build upon the experience and knowledge of individuals who already are serving within the department is a definite advantage for ensuring the continuity and strong line of succession that is so important in a police department,” Village Manager Cara Pavlicek said in a prepared statement. “Those already on the force not only know how the department functions day to day, but they also know the community, which is a key factor in being an effective member of the Oak Park leadership team.”

Oak Park Police Chief LaDon Reynolds called the officers “proven leaders with the experience to help guide police department operations now and into the future.”

“I know this firsthand because we have all served together during my career in Oak Park,” he said.
